I'm working with a MacBookPro6,2 - 8GB RAM, running Mac OSX 10.7.3, and MS Lync for Mac v 14.0.1 (111018). I've tried using both a direct usb wired headset, a Logitec headset with mic, as well as a Plantronics Savi W440-M. Mac OS Sound controls recognize both devices, and I am able to utilize both devices through several Mac applications including Skype and SecondLife, w/o issue. However, Lync will not recognize either device. Does not crash the device, simply continues to route sound through the built in mic and speakers.
My understanding is that Lync pulls its input/output settings direct from MacOS Sound Settings, and should switch to which ever input/output settings have been selected. Can you help? Hey rick, could you please check your settings in lync under the 'audio device' and 'video device' tabs and ensure that you have the webcam thats attached to the MAC listed as the primary device? In both of those sections there is a spot to set both the mic and webcam that lync will use, along with the option to test them as well. Upgrading to 14.0.2 (120223) did resolve part of the problem. I'm now able to use a hard cabled usb headset (logitech). But i'm still unable to use the plantronics device with the usb transceiver. I've had a couple of conversations with Plantronics on this, and as their device works with all other functions within the Mac OS and applications, except Lync, they believe it to be a software issue with Lync. And I'm inclined to agree with them. I can't be the only person dealing with these issues and Lync in the MacOS 10.7.x.

This happens to me on either a Cinema display or a USB headset. I hear the ringing on Lync through the correct output source, but the conversation starts on the MacBook Air's internal mic and speakers.

I have developed a process of switching, (if you hold down the option key and click the volume icon is works as well as soundsource) but it is annoying and often i forget to switch the mic and walk away from the laptop with a wireless headset. I would think that this has something to do with Lync's integration with audio services on the mac. I have another problem with pinned contacts moving from the top to the bottom on the window with no predictability, but I'll post that in a separate question Justin. Justin, I've got the same issue with my Dell laptop. I have a high end Logitech webcam (recommended by Microsoft for Lync) a USB headset (generic) and my Iphone headset that I use succesfully with Skype and GoToMeeting. Regardless of what settings I choose in Lync these are all ignored. Lync continues to use the mic and speakers on the Dell laptop.
The video from the Logitech however does work, even though the mic does not. I've cranked the volume up as far as it will go and people can barely hear me and I can barely hear them. Related issue. Working on an iMac OSX 10.8.2 using Plantronics Blackwire C420-M USB headset for Lync. No problem finding the Plantronics in the general settings and switching to them as main output and input for sound in OSX.
However I don't want them as my main output for sound. I want my computer speakers connected to the jack to be my general sound source, but to switch seamlessly to the headset whenever I receive or make a Lync-call.
Without having to open the general sound settings for the whole OS and change first. Is it somehow possible? Best regards.
