Cover-up: New Covers For Mobile Devices And Stickers For Mac

The Apple logo represents hardware to me. On my Lenovo laptop I don't feel the need to cover up 'Lenovo'. Could be because I'm a long time Apple user, but to me, the Apple represents the company overall, and the devices and the Mac OS logo or maybe the Mac OS X stylized 'X' represent the actual OS itself. The red dot on the Apple Watch Series 3 comes on all models with LTE connectivity. That means the more expensive stainless steel and ceramic versions, which cannot be purchased without a cellular.

This subreddit is not endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc. Hi - I've repurposed my Macbook Air to dual boot Linux Mint, which is my primary OS of choice. I bought some cool Linux stickers to use to cover the Apple logo, but when it turns on, the light-up Apple logo shines through the sticker, and it makes the image on the sticker difficult to view. Are there any tried-and-true ways to fix this? Are there any known online retailers that sell maybe like a thin film that will cover the Apple logo to block out the light and still allow a sticker to go overtop it without bulging through it?
I thought about maybe duct tape, but it might be too thick underneath the sticker. Thans to any help anyone could provide! Edit: Also - I realized after submitting that asking for a way to cover an Apple logo in the Apple subreddit might get some scoffs; apologies to anyone I offend, I love Apple and I have other Apple machines; I just wanted to use an old Macbook Air as my Linux laptop. Edit 2: I forgot to add: I want it to be reversible, so I wouldn't use a sharpie or paint or anything like that.
Edit 3: 5/13/15 - Just to update anyone that ever finds this post, using aluminum foil has been, without a doubt, the best soution! It masks 95-98% of the light, even in a pitch black room! It's perfect, I just cut a shape of the apple logo out of aluminum foil as suggested in a comment below, and it did the trick!
Even duct tape only blocked out only 70-75% of the light. Just FYI, when I made this post, I had utilized duct tape and it worked by blocking about 70-75% of the light. It wasn't optimal, but it worked. However, just now I removed the old sticker and duct tape and replaced it with tinfoil as you suggested - and it worked so much better! It blocks I'd say 95-98% of the light! You can't even see any light from the logo in a completely dark room unless you are reaaaallllly trying to see some.
Thanks for the suggestion, this was by far the best solution! I’d say just use vinyl electrical tape or cut a circle out of some good quality duct tape and cover it that way. There are several types of tape out there that will not allow any light to pass through and won’t leave residue behind.
I think vinyl tape, like electrical tape, is your best bet. There is also “liquid electrical tape” on the market you might try. I believe it’s pretty harmless, I’ve never had it damage anything and it’s easy to peel off, but if you aren’t sure, test it on a similar surface first. I understand where you are coming from completely. I don’t mind the Apple logo too much, but if I had a choice, I’d rather it not be there. I don’t care if other people know what kind of computer I am using.
If anything, sometimes I’d rather not advertise the fact that it’s an expensive Mac laptop. One thing I really dislike though are those cases with a circle cut out to “showcase” the glowing Apple. I think those are pretty lame, just looks like you want to make SURE everyone knows you’re using an Apple product. “Oh shit, can’t obscure the brand logo with a case! People might not be able to see it and recognize how cool I am and that I am not using one of those peasant computersugh.”.
You couldn’t pay me to rock one of those things lol. I actually tried duct tape, and thought it worked almost perfectly (wasn't too thick, and almost all of the light was blocked from coming through). But that was in daylight; when I turned on my laptop at night in a dark room, the logo was shining through pretty strongly. Oh well, not the end of the world. But if I peel it off and try again, I'll try electrical tape.
I actually rather like the Apple logo on the Macbooks - both the overall design of the logo itself, as well as the backlit look on the Macbooks; I think it looks so sleek. I just don't want to showcase the logo if I'm running another OS; plus, I really like the design of the sticker I found and I just want to display it on my case, but it doesn't look right aesthetically if the Apple logo is displayed too. Though I totally get where you're coming from with the cutout showcase cases, I would use one myself because of how much I like the look of the backlit logo; I don't care about it being Apple specifically, I just think backlit logos like that look cool in general haha. Yep, i get where you are coming from.
I felt the same way about the Windows logo on the superkey on my PC that's running Linux, which is why it's got a Tux decal on it lol. But just to play Devil's advocate, if you think about, Apple is a hardware maker. The Apple logo represents hardware to me.
On my Lenovo laptop I don't feel the need to cover up 'Lenovo'. Could be because I'm a long time Apple user, but to me, the Apple represents the company overall, and the devices and the or maybe the Mac OS X stylized 'X' represent the actual OS itself.
My issue with the cases that 'showcase' the glowing logo is that no one would make a case like that to showcase the Dell logo or the word 'TOSHIBA' on the back of a Satellite Pro. That to me, make it pretentious. It's like making the Mercedes logo on you S-class light up at night just to make sure everyone knows you have a Mercedes. It's a bit much.
I like the facr the logo doesnt light up on the iPad and the New Macbook, actually.
Mark Zuckerberg is one of the most powerful men in the world because billions of people give Facebook, which he founded, free access to their personal data. In return, users receive carefully curated snapshots of his life: baby photos, mundane office tours and the occasional 5K. On Tuesday, observers were reminded that Mr. Zuckerberg, 32, is not just a normal guy who enjoys running and quiet dinners with friends. In a posted to his Facebook account, he celebrated the growing user base of Instagram, which is owned by Facebook. An eagle-eyed Twitter user named Chris Olson noticed that in the image’s background, his laptop camera and microphone jack appeared to be covered with tape. Other publications, including, used the tweet to raise the question: Was this paranoia, or just good practice?
Security experts supported the taping, for a few good reasons:. The first is that Mr. Zuckerberg is a high-value target. “I think Zuckerberg is sensible to take these precautions,”, an online security expert and consultant, wrote in an email Wednesday. “As well as intelligence agencies and conventional online criminals who might be interested in targeting his billions, there are no doubt plenty of mischievous hackers who would find it amusing to spy upon such a high-profile figure.”.
The second is that covering photo, video and audio portals has long been a basic and cheap security safeguard. “Covering the camera is a very common security measure,” Lysa Myers, a security researcher at the data security firm ESET, said in an email. “If you were to walk around a security conference, you would have an easier time counting devices that don’t have something over the camera.”.
Third, Mr. Zuckerberg is not immune to security breaches. A recent of his Twitter and LinkedIn accounts shows that he most likely committed two basic privacy faux pas: He may have used the same password across several websites and did not use. Judging from his photo, however, it appears that Mr.
Zuckerberg was taking simple precautions to protect himself from anyone who may try to gain remote access. The practice is fairly technologically simple: Hackers trick people into that allows them access to the devices. Zuckerberg is not the only high-profile case: James Comey, the director of the F.B.I., at Kenyon College in April that he also puts tape over his computer’s webcam, for surprisingly simple reasons, to NPR: “I saw something in the news, so I copied it,” Mr. “I put a piece of tape — I have obviously a laptop, personal laptop — I put a piece of tape over the camera. Because I saw somebody smarter than I am had a piece of tape over their camera.” People who are not billionaires or high-ranking government officials are not without risk, said Stephen Cobb, a senior security researcher at ESET.
“For people who are not C.E.O.s, the threat is people scanning the internet for accessible webcams for a range of motives, from voyeurism to extortion,” Mr. Cobb wrote in an email. Experts don’t have a good estimate for how often such attacks occur, but according to a 2015 released by the nonprofit Digital Citizens Alliance, the practice is a growing problem for consumers, especially young women. The report also said that trojans account for some 70 percent of all malware. “They’ve been one of the most popular types of malware on every operating system, for quite a long time,” Ms.

Myers, of ESET, said. “The best ways to protect against them are to update all your software on your machine regularly, and use reputable security software, including anti-malware and a firewall.”.
